Camp Chi Challenge Grant Recipient PDF Print E-mail

Innovative Program Designed to Raise the Bar on Counselor Effectiveness

(Northbrook, IL) — Camp Chi, the overnight camp owned and operated by the Jewish Community Centers of Chicago (JCC), is pleased to announce that it is a recipient of the Foundation for Jewish Camping’s Camper-Centric Challenge Grant. This grant will allow Camp Chi to create and develop an intensive and effective training program to improve the cabin counselor’s ability to individualize, understand, care for and connect with each camper. The program will include a training curriculum that utilizes experts in the fields of child development with an added specialty of pre-camp and in-camp training programs. They will also instruct Camp Chi’s on-site camp social workers in supporting, supervising and reinforcing the training while camp is in session.

Anita M. Stone JCC Nets Kenyea Beach for Summer Sports Program

(Flossmoor, IL) - Kenyea Beach, the current Assistant Coach for Boys Varsity Basketball at Rich East High School, brings his talents in athletics and sportsmanship to younger children in the local community.  In his new position as Sports Camp Unit Head at the Anita M. Stone JCC, Beach looks forward to building skills and character in developing athletes.  With a history of volunteerism including the McLegends Game, it is not surprising that Beach has decided to become involved with Southside youth.

JCC Elaine Frank Apachi Day Camp to Open Summer, 2008 PDF Print E-mail

37 acre site will also feature year round JCC Early Childhood Programs

(Lake County, IL) – The new Lake County Jewish Community Campus, featuring the JCC Elaine Frank Apachi Day Camp, will open in June, 2008.

The campus, which is on a 37 acre site on Old McHenry Road near Route 22, is a joint project of the Jewish United Fund/Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Chicago (JUF/Federation) and Jewish Community Centers of Chicago (JCC).

People with Parkinson's Exhibit Their Inspirational Artwork

WHAT: Exhibition of artwork by people with Parkinson's disease,including a reception and special exhibit honoring the memory and artistic talents of Nancy Paschke, wife of Illinois artist Ed Paschke. Presentations will be given by prominent movement disorders specialist Dr. Michael Rezak, Paschke family members and announcement of the Jewish Community Center's newly expanded Parkinson's program. Open to the public. Admission is free.
