Where are the overnight camps located?
Our camps are fortunate to share a portion of the 600 private acres of pristine woods and waterfront property associated with JCC Camp Chi in Lake Delton, Wisconsin. This ideal camp setting and location provides a wonderful complement to each of our camp programs. What is JCC’s camp philosophy?JCC camp programs are deeply rooted in Jewish values and traditions. While we find joy in our Jewish identity, we welcome everyone from all backgrounds. At JCC, we place a strong emphasis upon character development. Each camp day is filled with “teachable moments,” opportunities for our counselors to teach or model ethical behavior which prepares all children to make better decisions on their own. Is JCC experienced in overnight camp? JCC is one of the most trusted names in children’s camp programs. We have been welcoming and nurturing 9-16 year-old campers for 90 years. Generations of camp families have made our overnight camps their summer home. How will my child get to and from camp? Most campers are picked up locally at centralized locations by luxury coach buses. The buses are air–conditioned and equipped with video monitors and bathrooms for a comfortable ride to camp. Counselors serve as chaperones on each bus and help ease the transition into camping life. Is camp structured by gender and age?Children attending camp live with same gender peers in cabin groups known as villages. Each village has the atmosphere of a small and intimate camp and includes a washhouse and a fire circle for evening campfires. Counselors reside in the cabins with the campers. What do the cabins look like? All of the cabins at camp are wooden buildings with bunk beds. The cabins have electricity, but no outlets–so don’t bring things that need to be plugged in. Everyone living in one village shares a large washhouse that is located near the cabins. The washhouses are cleaned twice daily and have sinks, individual toilet stalls, and individual showers. Can my child be in a cabin with friends? We will be happy to accommodate up to two friendship requests as long as mutual friendship requests have been made. What if my child doesn’t know anyone else at the camp?At a JCC camp, you never feel alone. Our well-trained staff is focused on successfully transitioning children to the joys of overnight camp. New friends are made quickly and easily. How are homesickness and other adjustments handled? We are experts at helping campers feel comfortable and confident while away from home. It is not uncommon for the first-time camper to feel homesick, and for most kids, this is short term. Through the comfort and guidance of our warm and friendly staff, they quickly adjust and enjoy an incredible summer experience. What kind of food is served at camp?We serve three nutritious and kid-friendly meals each day. A breakfast buffet with a variety of fruit, baked goods and hot cereal is available to start the day; a salad bar is available at lunch and dinner. Peanut butter and jelly, as well as vegetarian options, are available at every meal. We will be happy to accommodate special dietary needs for your child. What if my child becomes ill or has an accident while at camp? Your child’s health and safety is our first priority. Our air-conditioned Health Center is open 24 hours a day and is staffed by a resident physician and seven nurses. In the unlikely event that it is needed, emergency medical treatment is also available at a nearby hospital. How do you select and train your staff? All staff are personally screened and selected by one of our camp directors to ensure our highest standards are met. Before camp begins, all of our staff participate in an intensive education and safety training program. Are campers allowed to leave the camp grounds? Campers will leave the camp grounds as a regular part of their camp program. Campers are always accompanied by staff and supervised throughout all activities. They are not allowed to leave the camp grounds unescorted, or for non-endorsed camp purposes at any time.
