American Red Cross Classes

JCC provides a variety of American Red Cross training classes including
participant and instructor level classes. All courses are taught by certified staff.

The classes listed below reflect the variety of JCC program offerings.
Programs currently running will vary depending on the time of year.

Lifeguarding Instructor

17 yrs & up: Become certified to teach the American Red Cross Lifeguarding, Shallow Water Lifeguarding, Waterfront Skills, Waterpark Skills, CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and Health Care Providers, Administering Emergency Oxygen and Bloodborne Pathogens. This course prepares instructor candidates to use course and presentation materials, conduct training sessions and evaluate the progress of candidates in a professional-level course. Note: To be eligible to teach Waterfront Skills, candidates must also possess a current Waterfront Skills certificate (or equivalent).

Lifeguard Review

15 yrs & up: This course is for current lifeguards who have expired within the last year and need the latest 2012 ARC lifeguard update. Verification of current certification or recent expiration is required.

Participants are required to demonstrate proficiency in all rescues, water skills, CPR PRO / AED skills, and First-Aid skills as well as successfully pass the written exam for Lifeguard Training.

15 yrs & up: Successful completion of the course will result in American Red Cross certificates in Lifeguard Training (which includes First Aid) and CPR for the Professional Rescuer.

Water Safety Instructor

16 yrs & up: Become an American Red Cross Water Safety instructor and teach children and adults how to swim! Successful completion of the American Red Cross Water Safety instructor course will result in certification to teach the following programs:

  • Parent and Child Aquatics
  • Preschool Aquatics
  • Learn-to-Swim
  • Safety Training for Swim Coaches
  • Longfellow’s WHALE Tales
  • Water safety courses and presentations
