JCC aquatics staff teach the American Red Cross Learn-to-Swim program. The multi-level program allows campers to progress at their own pace and develop the confidence and skills they need to become good swimmers. Safety is stressed in and around the pool. American Red Cross Certified Lifeguards staff the pool during swim instruction and free play. Campers swim twice daily with one period devoted to instruction and the other to free swim. Campers receiving instructional swim must participate in order to enjoy the day’s free swim period. Tweens participate in free swim only. Swim TestingEach camper is tested at the beginning of summer and placed in an appropriate swim level. Each level includes specific skill requirements which campers work on with staff. Campers pass out of levels through both formal and informal testing. Swim Progress ReportsThroughout the summer, parents will receive swim progress reports which share the skills campers are currently working on as well as accomplishments. Observing Swim LessonsParents may choose to visit camp to observe swim lessons. We recommend that visits last no more than 30 minutes and are limited to once per session (camp is all about building independence!) All visitors must check in at the camp office to receive a pass before entering the camp grounds.
