1. Where is the Campus located and who will it primarily serve in its Early Childhood programs slated to begin in the fall of 2008?

The campus is located in Lake Zurich on Old McHenry Road near Route 22. With over 30 acres to call our own, the Early Childhood programs on the new Campus will primarily serve families west of Buffalo Grove Road that may be closer to the Campus than our current Jacob Duman JCC at Woodland Commons in Buffalo Grove. These areas will include Lake, McHenry and Kane Counties including Buffalo Grove, Vernon Hills, Lake Zurich, Long Grove, Hawthorn Woods, Barrington, Mundelein, Palatine, Hoffman Estates, Schaumburg, Elgin, Crystal Lake and Deer Park.

2. Will the Jacob Duman JCC at Woodland Commons continue to offer early childhood programs and remain an important location for JCC?

Absolutely! Our Jacob Duman site will continue to serve families in the Northwest Corridor. JCC remains fully committed to the Jacob Duman site where there is a large and vibrant Full Day Childcare and Preschool program including enrichment, adult/child, and Backup Child Care.

3. What new service opportunities does the Lake County Jewish Community Campus make possible for families looking for early childhood programs?

The Campus in Lake Zurich will allow us to serve a population that has not previously attended the Jacob Duman site in Buffalo Grove. As is the case at all of our locations, our early childhood program integrates a quality Early Childhood learning experience based on Creative Curriculum and the Illinois Early Learning Standards. Creative curriculum has 5 major components that define the vital role of the teacher in connecting content, teaching and learning for preschool children. The Illinois Early Learning Standards were developed by the Illinois State Board of Education and include benchmarks for children from 3 through 5 years of age. Our JCC curriculum also brings Jewish values to life while preparing children for their next educational steps.

Our dedicated and nurturing teachers help children achieve their full potential by focusing on the necessary development of social, perceptual, motor, language, pre-math and pre-writing skills that are so important to brain development.

4. What type of Early Childhood programming will be offered in the fall of 2008?

Our ten month program will serve up to 75 children in three classrooms from ages 2 through 4 years old and include adult/child classes for infants to 2 years, and enrichment classes for our preschoolers. “Early and Late Care” as well as Backup Child Care will be offered for our preschoolers to extend the day and offer parents the support that they may need.

7. Will there be a director and professional staff at the Campus?

There will be an Early Childhood Services Director in charge of the site when the program opens. All teaching staff will follow our NAEYC and DCFS guidelines. All JCC’s Early Childhood site staff are highly qualified, and JCC provides training every year for all teaching staff.

8. Will there be any classes offered prior to the start of Early Childhood programs at the new campus site in the fall of 2008?

Yes, there will be Adult/Child classes forming beginning in fall of 2007 to acquaint families to our programs and to help them make the transition to the campus location in the fall of 2008. These classes will be offered in area homes and other buildings in the area. Our Jacob Duman JCC site will also be used for this purpose.

9. What will the classrooms look like at the new Campus?

Our Early Childhood classrooms will be large, welcoming, state of the art rooms that are designed to help children engage in activities and support exploration, experimentation and help children pursue their interests. The space will be divided into interest areas where varied materials will be offered for children to work quietly and in social settings. Areas will be devoted to books, art activities and toys and games. Areas will be set aside for dramatic play, block building, and large muscle activities. Outdoor play areas will be part of this beautiful natural setting which also houses the JCC Elaine Frank Apachi Day Camp in the summer.
