JCC Partners with Synogogues PDF Print E-mail
Jewish Community Centers of Chicago (JCC) partners with synagogues in multiple ways including the Sydney N. Shure Kehilla in the city where JCC and synagogues jointly offer young adults entry into the Jewish community; Adult Jewish Education Co-op (AJEC) in the Northwest suburbs that offers learning opportunities for the entire community throughout the year; the North Shore Fellowship of Rabbis which created the Jewish Environmental Coalition of the North Shore (JECNS) which JCC’s Rabbi Nina Mizrahi co-chairs, also co-hosts Green Fairs with synagogues and works closely with local rabbis on other community educational programs and projects; “got Shabbat?” in the city and suburbs where JCC and area synagogues offer families and children the popular program on Shabbat afternoons; in the Hyde Park/Kenwood neighborhoods where the JCC and synagogues are part of the Council of Jewish Organizations that develops community events and programs; the Cooperative Jewish Council in the Southern suburbs where JCC and area synagogues co-sponsor learning and holiday events and address political issues and community needs.

JCC is coordinating a community effort with the support of the Chicago Board of Rabbis and local rabbis to provide chaplaincy services to the Recruit Training Center at the Great Lakes Naval Base in the absence of a Jewish military chaplain. In planning new programs and facilities, like the new Lake County Jewish Community Campus in Lake Zurich, JCC works closely with synagogues to ensure that programs are made available to the widest cross-section of the Jewish population.
