POSITION: Assistant Director of Development LOCATION: 30 S. Wells, Chicago DUTIES: The Assistant Director of Development is responsible for working as a direct support to the Assistant General Director, Financial Resource Development to research, source and help secure major and planned gifts for the organization. The Assistant Director will work with the FRD team to develop strategies that will continue to increase the resource base of the organization, effectively communicate the organization’s message and build relationships within the philanthropic community. Specific duties include (but are not limited to) the following: • Develop and maintain strong positive relationships with all donors, prospects, and foundations, to enhance support for and understanding of the organization’s development initiatives. • Actively become knowledgeable about all aspects of the organization’s mission, long range plans, operations, programs, and performances, and prepare to represent the organization professionally and with enthusiasm. • Actively participate in organizational visioning, strategic planning, goal setting and the overall gift efforts of the organization. • Initiate strategic communications to cultivate special projects and gifts prospects for their highest potential. • Work with Assistant General Director-FRD to develop and implement strategy for planned gifts and major gifts solicitations. • Provide research and material development in support of lay leader and executive management presentations. • Work with the FRD staff to develop and implement intimate donor cultivation events. • Work with agency management and FRD team to identify, develop and implement special projects (ie: naming opportunities, targeted campaigns, etc.). • Develop, implement and maintain an effective multi-faceted donor recognition program. • Work with Special Events Director to develop and implement sponsorship program for major events. • Track and manage cultivation and solicitation activities. • Establish revenue goals for special projects and gifts; develop and implement strategies for attaining these goals. Identify opportunities to broaden special projects from a global JCC view; work collaboratively with staff to create a shared commitment to accomplish these goals. • Ensure accuracy of the individual, corporate and foundation prospect database within Raisers Edge. • Develop, foster and maintain relationships across the agency and lay leader committees that create a shared commitment to accomplish the FRD goals. • Work with agency staff, lay leadership FRD chairperson to coordinate and implement various aspects of donor development initiatives. • Proactively identify grant opportunities for the agency; serve as a resource for the grant writer; create and maintain a process for completing grant applications, tracking, submittal, approval and follow up. • Work collaboratively with Jewish United Fund staff for approval of major gift prospects. • Work collaboratively with FRD Database Manager to evaluate, update and monitor reporting systems and documentation. • Track/monitor FRD activities and accomplishments and submit timely reports to the Assistant General Director-FRD. • Actively participate in departmental and inter-departmental staff meetings. • Actively participate in FRD Committee meetings. • Actively participate in agency wide events. SALARY RANGE: Management REQUIREMENTS: • Bachelors Degree with 5+ years experience in fundraising, donor development or related field required; • Knowledge of funding community (Jewish, secular, foundations; local and national); • Knowledge and involvement with Jewish community-at-large preferred; • Knowledge of Jewish Federation, Jewish United Fund, affiliated agencies, and United Way helpful; • Demonstrated success in fundraising particularly in the area of major gifts, endowment and targeted capital campaigns; • Strategic thinking and orientation with the ability to deal with emergent issues; • Ability to manage multiple simultaneous projects and constituents; • Ability to work independently yet with the ability to develop and foster a strong team environment; • Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills; • Demonstrated ability to set and achieve or exceed goals and meet deadlines; • Strong organizational and project management skills; • Time management skills; • Ability to develop, nurture and build relationships, both internally and externally; • Strong computer skills using: Microsoft Word, Excel, Lotus Notes, Raiser’s Edge and the Internet, with the ability to learn new programs as needed; • Demonstrated enthusiasm, strong work ethic and resourcefulness.
