Creative Curriculum...the backbone of the JCC Early Childhood curriculum defines the vital role of the teacher in connecting content, teaching and learning. It focuses on learning environments, what children learn, how children develop and learn, the teacher’s role and the family’s role. It rests on a firm foundation of research and meets the Illinois Early Learning Standards. 
Reggio Emilia...is an approach to education where young children are encouraged to explore their environment and express themselves through art and oral and written language. Classrooms are organized into small groups and support problem-solving. The approach encourages thinking about a child as a “learner.” It looks at the role of the teacher, school, organization and management as well as the design and use of the physical environment and curriculum with a focus on discovery, problem identification and problem-solving. Illinois Early Learning Standards... developed by the Illinois State Board of Education, establish benchmarks for children from three through five years of age in the areas of language arts, mathematics, science, social science, physical development and health, fine arts, foreign language, and social/emotional development. Ethical Start... is an interactive and comprehensive program designed to teach Jewish values via Jewish Texts. The curriculum exposes teachers, children and parents to the wisdom of Pirke Avot, deepening their understanding of how Jewish Values can be lived in everyday activities of school, home and community. InvestiGator Club... introduces children to their earliest experiences with the scientific method. Using stories and characters, the curriculum integrates literacy, math, science, social studies, oral language, fine arts, music, and movement. Making Healthy Choices... is a diverse curriculum including lessons related to self-esteem, body awareness, nutrition, fitness and stress reduction. It uses creative play, word building, games, crafts and explorative activities to teach essential health habits and skills. All JCC sites are having snacks and menus monitored by a nutritionist are improving overall knowledge of health and nutrition issues, and are increasing structured and unstructured physical activity. JCC’s Making Healthy Choices is a new pilot program funded through an Innovative Health grant from the Jewish Federation. |
