Chavayah Overnight Camp for Girls

Midwest’s Newest Orthodox Jewish Overnight Camp

Orthodox Girls, Grades 5-11
Busses arrive with laughter and cheers as campers from across the country, come together each summer at Chavayah, JCC Chicago’s overnight camp for girls. Just three hours from Chicago, on the grounds of award-winning JCC Camp Chi, campers explore amazing activities in a torah-rich environment while focusing on improving middos, embracing prayer and study and deepening love for our rich Jewish heritage.

Your camper will come home with greater confidence, independence and character along with further appreciation for her Jewish identity.

Learning Through Participation

Under our gentle guidance, campers develop areas important in a young lady’s life. Through Parsha, stories, role playing and journaling your daughter will gain enthusiasm and pride for her rich heritage. At Shacharis davening, we explore the prayers and gain a deeper appreciation for the beautiful text of our siddur.

Shabbos is very special with zemiros, ruach, dancing and camaraderie. Davening in serene surroundings adds to the achdus. Afternoon walks, games, skits, and Divrei Torah, prepared and given by your daughters, make this time together memorable. Special guest rabbis and their families guide and enrich Shabbos experiences.

Your camper will be eager to explore over 600 acres of indoor and outdoor excitement on the grounds of JCC Camp Chi. Modern facilities bring your camper’s summer alive with horseback riding at our private stables, sports in our air-conditioned gymnasium and water sports off our private docks. Campers cool off at our private waterfront sandy beach and secluded outdoor pool and enjoy a range of new, fun and challenging activities.

Transportation, Food and Friends

Getting there

For your convenience, campers have the option of adding round-trip travel to and from camp via comfortable, air-conditioned, washroom equipped coach buses. Buses leave from and return to the Bernard Horwich JCC in Chicago, Illinois.

If your camper is arriving by plane or you want to discuss other transportation options, please contact the camp director, Wendy Singer at 773-761-9100.

Keepin’ it Kosher

Campers work up quite a healthy appetite at camp and meals and snacks are designed to keep their energy level high. All food at camp is served under cRc supervision (all meats are Glatt). No food may be brought from home, unless arrangements are made in advance for special dietary reasons (allergies, gluten free, etc).

Food allergies?

Many campers with food allergies and dietary restrictions attend our camp each summer.  The camp director and kitchen staff will make every effort possible to address your daughter’s needs.  Please call the camp office prior to the start of camp to discuss your individual expectations.

Bunks & BFFs

Camp provides a wonderful opportunity to meet new friends. However, if you daughter has her heart set on bunking with her bestie, mutual friendship requests can be made before June 1st. While there are no guaranteed about room assignments, we take this process very seriously and try to make everyone happy.

Health Center

Your daughter’s health and safety is our number one priority. JCC Chavayah Overnight Camp for Girls has access to Camp Chi’s Health Center. Staffed by 6 to 7 nurses and a resident physician, the health center is centrally located, air-conditioned and open 24 hours a day.

Campers receive excellent medical attention should they require treatment, take daily medications or need medical observation.
